MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Brewton-Parker Christian University marked a significant milestone in its Prison Education Program with the graduation of its first Bachelor of Business Administration students on May 27. This historic moment recognized the first bachelor's degree graduates from the program.

The occasion celebrated the graduation of eight students from the Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, GA, the original pilot site for the Prison Education Program since its inception in 2015. Students were given a well-deserved commencement ceremony, followed by a luncheon.

As of Spring 2026, 189 incarcerated students are actively participating in the program across multiple correctional facilities. To date, 60 students have graduated through the initiative, including 52 associate degree graduates and now eight Bachelor of Business Administration graduates. Additionally, 23 students have chosen to continue their education through Brewton-Parker Christian University’s online programs following their release, showcasing the program's transformative impact and the instructors' dedication to equipping students for a life of growth and scholarship beyond incarceration.

"Celebrating the great achievement of these students was a tremendous blessing. We are so thankful for this opportunity God has given us to impact the future of these students," said Dr. Steve Echols, President of Brewton-Parker Christian University.

As an extension of Brewton-Parker Christian University, the Prison Education Program offers incarcerated students the chance to earn accredited college degrees. This program is devoted to delivering consistent, high-quality education that promotes academic and personal development.
