MARIETTA, Ga. — Firefighters responded Wednesday evening to a blaze inside the older sanctuary at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church after the church’s alarm system was triggered.
According to the Cobb County Fire Department, crews arrived at the church on Johnson Ferry Road and quickly brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported, and no other buildings on the campus were affected.
Church officials said the fire began shortly before 9 p.m. and was contained to the chapel area. “We are incredibly grateful for the quick and skilled response of the Cobb County Fire Department and the Cobb County Police,” said Senior Pastor Clay Smith. “Their professionalism and swift action kept everyone safe and contained the damage to the chapel. We’re thankful for their service to our community and for God’s protection over our church family.”
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but investigators have ruled out foul play. The church said it is assessing the extent of the damage and that all worship services and ministry activities will continue as scheduled in other parts of the campus.
