From Cleveland First Baptist Church
CLEVELAND, Ga. — On Sunday, Aug. 3, Cleveland First Baptist Church held its Homecoming and celebrated 185 years of ministry in the community.
The church was constituted on April 11, 1840, which was actually five years before the founding of the Southern Baptist Convention. The church was originally called Mount Yonah Baptist Church, but the name was changed in 1952 to First Baptist Church of Cleveland. Today, the church is referred to as Cleveland First Baptist Church (CFBC).
During the worship service this past Sunday, 28 individuals were honored for serving as members of CFBC for 50 years or more. They received a drawing of the church by member James Turner, who is a life deacon and has been a CFBC member for 80 years.
In addition, 10-year anniversaries for two staff members were recognized: Manning Minton, Minister to Students and Families, and Bethany Beck, Church Pianist. The church recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of Associate Pastor Dennis Turner.
Dr. Phil Weaver has served as the Senior Pastor of CFBC since 2022.
