Musella Baptist Church is excited to announce the call of a new pastor, Rev. Jessie Rustin. He will begin his ministry on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024.
Born in Americus, Ga., Jessie grew up in Tazewell, Ga. While working in the grocery business for 14 years, Jessie studied toward a degree in biology at Georgia Southwestern State University, where he graduated in 2018. While at GSW, he became active in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) through which he came to saving faith in Christ. He was baptized at Tazewell Baptist Church in 2017. Jessie served as President at the BCM at Georgia Southwestern for two years, where he also met his wife, April Leigh Rustin. Jessie and April were married in May of 2018. They welcomed into the world their first child Samuel (Sammy) on October 31, 2023.
Sensing a call to ministry, Jessie began to serve at Ellaville Baptist Church in Ellaville, Ga., as a paid pastoral intern from 2019-2021, gaining experience in all aspects of ministry. He was later ordained at Ellaville Baptist Church in May, 2024. Sensing further a call to prepare for ministry, he and April moved to Louisville, Ky., to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS), where he graduated in 2024 with a dual track degree from both Boyce College (BA in Biblical Studies) and SBTS (Master of Divinity, Biblical and Theological Studies). During his final year at SBTS, Jessie was chosen for a select internship at the Mathena Center for Church Revitalization.
Despite moving away, Jessie always felt like God was calling him to return to Georgia and pastor in a rural setting and was happy to receive the call from Musella Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024. Musella Baptist Church celebrated its 140th anniversary in March of this year. The church invites everyone to celebrate in the calling of its new pastor, Rev. Jessie Rustin, and to pray for the church and Rev. Rustin as they begin this partnership in the Gospel.
