Georgia Baptist Convention President Josh Saefkow has appointed church leaders from across the state to serve on this year’s Committee on Nominations.
Wade Lott, pastor at Macedonia Baptist Churech in Hiawassee will serve as chairman. Lott is in his second year on the committee.
Other second-year members of the committee will be Brad Whitt, pastor at Abilene Baptist Church in Augusta; Paul Ballard, pastor at First Baptist Church in Thomasville; Fred Anderson, pastor at First Baptist Church of Baxley; and Bryan Myers, pastor at Central Baptist Church in Americus.
First-year members will be Seth DeFoor, pastor at Chamlee Memorial in Fort Valley; Chad Rising pastor at Blacks Creek Baptist Church in Commerce; Neal Dose pastor at Mansfield Baptist in Mansfield; Kevin Rivers pastor at Midway Church in Villa Rica; Tim Bozeman, pastor at Sale City Baptist Church in Sale City; Clint Sullens, pastor at Faith Baptist in Monroe; James Oney, pastor at Liberty Baptist in Fayetteville; Mark Hearn, pastor at First Baptist Church in Duluth; Hunter Roe, pastor at First Baptist Church in Bremen; and Brooks Cail, pastor at First Baptist Church of the Islands in Savannah.
Saefkow, pastor of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville, will serve as an ex officio member of Committee on Nominations, as will Georgia Baptist Executive Committee Chairman Stephen Fountain, pastor of First Baptist Church in Buford, and Georgia Baptist Mission Board Executive Director Thomas Hammond.
Those elected at the annual meeting will serve five-year terms.
The Executive Committee shall consist of six ex-officio members, one member elected from each cooperating association, and five members (at-large) from each of the six state regions (30 members total from the six regions). Each elected member shall be elected to serve a five-year term. It is important that at least one-half of the at-large positions be filled by laypersons.
The Committee on Nominations announces that at the 2024 annual meeting of the Georgia Baptist Convention, nineteen (19) associational full-term memberships and thirty (30) at-large full-term memberships (5 from each region) may be elected pending qualifications are met, as well as any unexpired terms which become vacant during the year. Georgia Baptists are reminded that the associations may suggest names to the Committee on Nominations for the associational vacancies.
Associations preparing to suggest names for consideration by the Committee on Nominations will receive a nomination form from the office of the Executive Director and are requested to return the completed form to the office of the Executive Director Thomas Hammond, 4295 Brogdon Exchange, Suwanee, Georgia 30024-3980, 770.480.8578 or email: jjohnson@gabaptist.org. The Committee on Nominations will meet on April 16, August 6, October 8, and, if needed, November 11.
Associations for which full five-year term (2024-2029) Executive Committee members will be elected in 2024 are Augusta, Consolation, Daniell, Ebenezer, Floyd County, Grady County, Habersham, Hephzibah, Kilpatrick, Little River, Merritt, Mount Vernon, Morganton-Mountaintown, Northwest Georgia, Notla River, Rabun County, Tucker, Telfair, and Tugalo.
