Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation hands out $8M in grants

DULUTH, Ga. – Daphne Harris Nicely understands the importance of providing the best possible medical care for expectant mothers and their unborn babies.

As executive director of the Atlanta Morning Center, she is especially aware that Georgia has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the U.S. That’s why the longtime Georgia Baptist created the Morning Center to provide medical care for expectant mothers without insurance.

“Georgia ranks No. 48 in the nation in the number of uninsured women,” Nicely said. “So this ministry is badly needed. And what we do allows us an opportunity to promote and preserve life.”

Nicely represented one of 77 health care organizations that received more than $8 million in grants from the Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation on Thursday. All of the recipients provide hands-on medical care.

The foundation presented checks to the organizations at a luncheon Thursday at the Georgia Baptist Mission Board’s office building in Duluth.

“As we selected the grant recipients for this year, we continued to focus on funding hands-on health care ministries,” said Larry Wynn, executive director of the Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation. “Our efforts in offering grants to non-profit health care organizations is intended to lighten the burden of those who offer health care services, and those who receive those benefits.”

Wynn said Georgia Baptists, through the foundation, are demonstrating the love of Christ.

The total for all grants this year was $8,068,920.04.

“Because we have been given much, we know much is required,” Wynn said. “We hold these assets, and our ability to share them, as a sacred trust.”

The recipients of this year’s grants are:

Athens Nurses Clinic – $100,000 for primary care for uninsured indigent patients.

Atlanta Morning Center – $80,000.00 for ATLMC prenatal and postpartum medical care.

Baptist Village Retirement Communities – $91,240.04 for skilled care support.

Bethesda Community Clinic – $100,000 for primary care clinic.

BFR Medical – $75,000 for mobile women’s care unit.

Brewton-Parker College – $100,000 for School of Nursing.

CareLink of Northwest Georgia Inc – $7,500 for expansion of primary care.

Center for Black Women’s Wellness – $100,000 for medical care for indigent uninsured adults.

Center for the Visually Impaired – $50,000 for treatment of the chronically visually impaired.

Choices Pregnancy Care Center – $10,000 for medical clinic expansion.

Christ Community Health Services Augusta – $100,000 for medical clinic.

Clarkston Community Health Center – $50,000 for medical and dental clinic.

Community Advanced Practice Nurses Inc. – $50,000 for women’s and children’s medical program.

Community Christian Council Medical Clinic – $25,000 for medical clinic expansion.

Consolation Baptist Association – $75,000 for Graham Medical Clinic.

Coweta Samaritan Clinic – $100,000 for medical clinic support.

Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care – $50,000 for the Curtis V. Cooper Mammography Program.

Ethne Health – $100,000.00 for the Ethne Health Primary Care Program.

Faith Hope & Love Christian Ministries Inc. – $50,000.00 for primary care expansion.

Faith In Serving Humanity Medical Inc. – $95,000.00 for community health care for the indigent.
