CUMMING, Ga. — Four educators from Horizon Christian Academy recently completed an intensive week-long Literacy Professional Development course as part of their journey toward earning Association of Christian Schools International Teacher Certification.

Held June 15–19 at Horizon Christian Academy, the professional learning experience was offered through a partnership with Truett McConnell University’s School of Education. The course was taught by Dr. Patsy D. Lewis, associate professor in the TMU School of Education, who provided participants with a full week of immersive instruction from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

The course focused on strengthening literacy instruction across all content areas, equipping teachers with practical, research-based strategies to support student achievement through reading, writing, vocabulary development, speaking, and critical thinking. Participants explored ways to integrate literacy practices into daily instruction regardless of subject area.

The following Horizon Christian Academy faculty members successfully completed the course:

  • Lori Carpenter – Spanish
  • Kristen Nelson – Social Studies
  • Brice Dollar – Social Studies
  • Jacquelyn Binger – Mathematics

By investing in high-quality professional learning, Horizon Christian Academy continues its commitment to educational excellence and to preparing teachers who are equipped to help students grow academically and spiritually.
