Into The Light Ministries equips churchgoers to fight sexual sin

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) - Into The Light Ministries, co-founded by John-Michael Bout and Jacob Valk, is dedicated to equipping the church to fight the pervasive issue of pornography through gospel-centered resources. Currently pursuing an M.Div. at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Bout has a deep passion for addressing this crisis within the church.

"The Devil has been attacking God's good design for sexuality since the fall," Bout said. "But today, he weaponizes technology like we have never seen before. In 2025, an 8-year-old can pull out their phone and instantly access millions of videos of graphic sex. Every parent must become a counselor, addiction expert, and technologist to protect their families."

Having personally struggled with pornography from a young age, Bout recognized the urgent need for an accessible resource to guide individuals from bondage in sexual sin to freedom in Christ. This desire led to the production of Into The Light, a documentary that teaches everyday Christians how to battle pornography through the gospel and practical means of grace provided by the church. Following the success of this documentary, Into The Light Ministries was established to continue producing biblical resources on sexuality for churches and families.

"Pornography is the burning house fire in the church today," Bout said. "Many assume that men and women will remain addicted to pornography for life. But Paul didn’t have that view of sin (1 Corinthians 6:9-11), and neither does God. We must address this issue for the very life of the church and its mission to the lost world."

Their foundational documentary, Into The Light, offers a structured, hope-filled approach to overcoming pornography addiction. Available as a seven-episode series, it features contributions from prominent Christian leaders, including Jeremy Pierre, Jenny Solomon, Heath Lambert, Deepak Reju, Ellen Dykas, Garrett Kell, and David Platt.

"People should watch this documentary because nothing blocks missions, shatters ministries, and destroys families like pornography does,” Bout said. “Into The Light will convict, inspire, and equip viewers to kill sin."

Expanding on this mission, Into The Light Ministries has recently released two new series. Parenting & Pornography is a nine-episode masterclass designed to help parents discuss God's design for sexuality and the dangers of pornography with their children. This series provides age-appropriate language, guidance on technology use, and encouragement for parents who feel nervous or ashamed.

The second series, TechSafe, is a tutorial-based resource that helps families cut off access to pornography on every device in their home.

"You don’t have to be a tech wizard to protect yourself online!” Bout said. “These tutorials will equip you to safely live with and enjoy your technology to the glory of God."

Looking ahead, Into The Light Ministries plans to release workbooks for churches, small groups, and families to deepen engagement with their resources.

"Our aim is to equip both individuals and leaders in the church," Bout said. "Ephesians 4:12 calls pastors to 'equip the saints for the work of ministry,' and our resources will help the church care for one another’s sexuality, leading to repentance, restoration, and greater joy in God’s design."

Through these efforts, Into The Light Ministries seeks to prepare the hands and feet of the body of Christ to minister to one another in love and restoration, breaking the chains of pornography addiction and leading individuals to true freedom in Christ.

Into The Light Ministries is one of the newest MSC Missionary organizations of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
