GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Lakewood Baptist Church of Gainesville will open its renovated worship center on Sunday.

Built in 2000, the worship center underwent a major renovation during the past eighteen months. Crocker and Brewster were the architects, and Tipton Construction was the general contractor.

Renovations include a permanent baptistry, wrap around seating for 1200, an enclosed plaza for overflow seating or reception area, new sound and video systems, interactive digital display screens and a lighted cross tower.

While the updates inside the building are complete, renovations are still underway to the exterior.

Chartered in 1956, Lakewood now has 2,137 members with a full-time ministry staff serving in a variety of discipleship missions and counseling ministries.

Sunday services are at 9:30 a.m. (traditional) and 11 a.m. (contemporary).

“Lakewood is blessed in so many ways,” said Senior Pastor Dr. Tyler Smiley.  “We acknowledge the renovation is the Lord’s work in our midst as we serve Him locally, nationally and globally. As we carry forward the strong ministry legacy from the leadership of our former senior pastor, Dr. Tom Smiley, and from the faithful who have gone before us in this ministry, we commit ourselves to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in our own generation, and we pray this center will be a blessing for future generations where the gospel is made known until the Lord returns.”

Lakewood’s deacon ministry team leader, Yale Moore, added, “We give God the glory for all He has done. By God’s grace and the generosity of His people at Lakewood, we are moving into this new worship center on time and completing the project completely debt-free.”

Lakewood Baptist is located at 2235 Thompson Bridge Road three miles north of downtown Gainesville.
