DULUTH — A crowd of ministers and spouses curious about opportunities to further ministry began a two-day Discover Georgia Baptists experience at the Missions and Ministry Center today.

The Georgia Baptist Mission Board sponsors the event for those who began their service in the state within the last year. It concludes tomorrow after lunch.

Today, attendees visited displays explaining the various departments of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board. In addition, seminars led by state missionaries delved into various aspects of ministry in the Peach State. Among them were:

  • “Legal Issues Facing the Church”, led by attorney Tom Duvall
  • “GuideStone and Insurance Services”, led by Keith Hamilton
  • “Ethnic Pastors Breakout”, led by Jerry Baker of Intercultural Church Planting and Missions Ministry
  • “Taxes and Financial Concerns”, led by Tony Neal, Church Administration Ministry
  • “Dealing with Conflict in the Church”, led by Marcus Merritt, Church Minister Relations

State leaders to address group

While at the Missions Center, participants will also worship together in the Louie P. Newton Chapel and take advantage of seminars geared toward ministers’ wives, led by Mary Cox of Church Minister Relations, and Cooperative Program giving and stewardship, led by Buck Burch.

The group of some 50 ministers and spouses notes an uptick in attendance compared to years past.

Georgia Baptist Executive Director J. Robert White and state missionaries Larry Wynn, of Church Revitalization and Evangelism; Steve Parr, of Staff Coordination and Development; and Mike Griffin, Public Affairs, will address attendees at a dinner tonight.
