Obituary: Brian Malcolm, faithful pastor, dies at 65

Reverend Brian William Malcom of Gainesville, Georgia, stepped into the presence of Jesus on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Born on July 13, 1959, he was 65 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Willyne Baker Malcom; daughters, Joanna Malcom and Laurie Malcom, both of Greeneville, TN; son, Robert (Krista) Malcom of Gainesville, GA. Stepchildren, Dan Baker of Chattanooga, TN; Sarah Baker of Valparaiso, FL; Hannah Baker (Justin Pursley) of Gainesville, GA and Josiah (Naomi) Baker of Oakwood, GA. Grandchildren: Abbygail, Levi, Kat, Natalie, Noah, Sally, Audrey, and Knox. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Harris (Phyllis) Malcom of Monroe, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Crawford Malcom and Eleanor Harris Malcom; infant brother, William, Jr., first wife, Lisa, and twin grandbabies, Madelyn and Marcos.

Raised in Monroe, GA, Brian was kind, funny, articulate, and loved to use his beautiful baritone voice to sing. When he wasn’t singing hymns, he was singing a song by the band Chicago or whistling the theme from the Andy Griffith Show. He was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.

Brian loved people and had a spirit to serve others, especially through bringing them the gospel of Christ. He graduated from Truett-McConnell College, Shorter College, and Mid-American Baptist Theological Seminary. Pastoring for over forty years in Kentucky and Georgia, the final seventeen years were spent at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gainesville.

The family will receive friends 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Funeral services to be held at 2:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2024, at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Harris Malcom will officiate.
