Obituary: Carol Poe, longtime missions servant and church volunteer, dies at 81

Mary Carol Hutchinson Poe, age 81, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Price Hutchinson and Kathleen Hutchens Hutchinson; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Poe; and great-granddaughter, Liliana Leigh Kornegay.

She is survived by her husband, Richard William Poe; sons, Randy Poe (Monica) of Birmingham, AL, and Rick Poe (Carey) of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Carla Kornegay (Nathan), Ferrah Huegele (Ben), Jordan Poe, Jesse Poe, Zander Poe, and Cara Poe; and brother, Robert Hutchinson (Yvonne) of Pittsburgh, PA.

Carol Poe was born in Atlanta, GA, and lived in Pittsburgh, PA, before attending Muskingum College and graduating from Carson-Newman University. Carol had a heart for missions, children, and music. She served faithfully with her husband, Richard, with the Home Mission Board (NAMB) in New York; in youth ministry in Jeffersontown, KY, and Murray, KY; with the International Mission Board in Costa Rica and Chile; and in a number of churches in Virginia and Georgia. Her home church was Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA, where she taught preschool and sang in the choir.

Visitation will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 31 Douglas Street, Cartersville, GA 30120, on September 12, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requested that donations be made specifically to the SEEK campaign at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
