Midway Church in Villa Rica., Ga., recently celebrated its 175th anniversary. The church, founded on July 15, 1847, by 11 charter members as “The Baptist Church of Christ at Macedonia,” originally met just once a month in a log cabin that also served as a school. The church changed its name in 1988 to Midway Macedonia Baptist Church, but it is widely known simply as “Midway.”

Todd Wright has led the church since 1996 and is the longest-serving pastor in the church’s history. In 2021, Wright presented a Pastoral Leadership Transition Plan, including the call of a co-pastor to work alongside him for three years. The church called Kevin Rivers, who began as co-pastor this summer.

By 1947 the church had grown to 350 members who met twice a month. Today, Midway counts more than 3,000 members and has an average attendance of more than 1,800 in person at two Sunday services, and more than 800 who participate in online services. In 2021, Midway was one of the Top 25 churches in Georgia in overall contributions to the Cooperative Program.
