SBC Executive Committee will more closely scrutinize job candidates in wake of Willie McLaurin's falsified resume

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee has implemented a standardized process for vetting job applications.

The move comes  a month after the revelation that former interim Executive Committee president Willie McLaurin had falsified his resume.

McLaurin resigned August  17 after committee members discovered  that he didn't have degrees from North Carolina Central University, Duke University Divinity School and Hood Theological Seminary, as he had claimed on his resume.

The new vetting process  includes verification of education, employment, military service, ordination, certifications and licenses.

Job candidates will also undergo criminal background checks, credit checks, verification of membership in a Southern Baptist church and that church’s history of Cooperative Program support.

The Executive Committee also instituted a code of conduct for its members. That code includes a restriction on social media posts that reflect negatively on the Executive Committee. Members could face disciplinary actions for violations.
