South Asian cyclone opens doors to the gospel

A devastating cyclone in South Asia in December opened a door for a Southern Baptist Convention Send Relief team to minister to survivors both physically and spiritually.

In the wake of the cyclone, Send Relief workers worked tirelessly to address  immediate needs.

Send Relief provided food, water, clothing, and bedding to some 500 people, and, in the process, building relationships that allowed for the sharing of the gospel.

Send Relief shared the good news with about 200 people.

One of those survivors was an elderly Muslim lady whose home was destroyed by flooding in one of the hard-hit areas. Send Relief workers reached out to her, giving her a bed, among other items. She died a few days later.

"However, in the midst of this tragedy, our partner was given a unique opportunity to demonstrate love and support to the grieving family," Send Relief said in an article. "He attended the funeral and spent time with them, offering comfort during a difficult period. This act of kindness has not only shown the practical love of Christ but has also opened doors for further conversations about the claims of Christ with the Muslim family.

Send Relief said compassion and relief efforts go hand in hand with the proclamation of the gospel.
