A truly remarkable event

The birth of Jesus was truly a remarkable event. His mother, Mary, was a teenage virgin who received a message from the angel Gabriel that she would conceive a child by the Holy Spirit and this child would be the Messiah.

As you could have imagined, Mary’s life was turned upside down. At the time, she was engaged to marry a man named Joseph. When Joseph discovered that Mary was pregnant, he could have divorced her, or worse, he could have her put to death. In spite of the potential hazardous consequences, Mary demonstrated an incredible trust in God.

In response to this life altering message given to her by the angel, Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord. May it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). She accepted the will of God even though the road was going to be rough. She yielded her will to the will of God and the rest is history.

Can you yield your future to the will of God? Do you trust Him enough to follow Him wherever He leads?

This devotion is based on Marty McLain's book "The Crown has Fallen: A Study of the Kings of Judah."
