In perpetuity

Scripture for today: Psalm 23:6
Have you ever watched the show “Shark Tank” on ABC? The premise is simple. Inventors and business owners present their products to a board of investors known as “sharks,” hoping that one of the sharks will invest in their product.
Sometimes, the sharks refuse. Other times, they will strike a deal with the inventor. But occasionally, one of the sharks will make a deal that involves getting royalties on the sales of the product. In other words, every time one of the products is sold, the shark gets a cut of the profit.
Every time the sharks make one of these deals, they say that they want royalties “in perpetuity,” meaning that they get royalties as long as these products are sold. Forever.
In Psalm 23:6, we are assured that as we trust in the Lord, we shall “dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” In the original Hebrew, the word for “forever” means “in perpetuity.” We will be with God forever, and ever, and ever. Nothing can change that.
Over the last thirty days, we have thanked the Lord for many things, but we are just getting started. As believers, we can look forward to an eternity of being with the Lord and thanking him for who he is and what he is done. We will thank him “in perpetuity” as we dwell with him.
The good news for us, though, is that God is not a greedy shark. He is the Good Shepherd. Thanking him will not cost us anything. Instead, it will be our great reward.
