Yesterday afternoon Speaker David Ralston delayed the casino bill and resolution until this Monday which will be the 30th Day, known as Crossover Day. He said that House members needed to hear from their constituents over the weekend and in church on Sunday … which elicited laughter from some House members … and "the faith community needs to be heard."
As I left the Georgia Capitol yesterday a gambling lobbyist said to me, "You're going to have a busy weekend!" - and then he laughed at me! He was referring to the challenge that Speaker David Ralston made to the churches. You see, that lobbyist thinks the church does not care. It was as if the Devil himself was speaking to me. I hope he is wrong!
I had just testified the day before, during a House Regulated Industries Committee as reported in the AJC, that casinos would jeopardize “the moral integrity of our state,” and I urged lawmakers not to use a statewide referendum to duck their responsibilities. “We have representatives that should not be letting these kinds of decisions be thrown back on the people."
Will you contact your Representative this weekend? And will you call the Speaker’s office and respectfully let him know that the gambling cartel is not welcome in Georgia? It makes me sick to see the money and influence-peddling going on at our state Capitol. May the Lord give us men and women who can't be bought! Will you join me?
