FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Marcus Mariota already has shown he's willing to serve as a mentor for Atlanta Falcons rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder. Mariota also says he's hungry to beat out Ridder and earn the job as the Falcons starting quarterback.

ATLANTA (AP) — Aaron Nola struck out 10 while pitching shutout ball into the ninth inning for his first victory since opening day, leading the Philadelphia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves 4-1. J.T. Realmuto homered as the Phillies prevented the World Series champion Braves from posting their first three-game winning streak of the season.

ATLANTA (AP) — Dansby Swanson scored the tiebreaking run in the fifth inning on an excruciating defensive sequence by the Phillies, and the Atlanta Braves beat Philadelphia 8-4. Swanson singled and came around to score for a 5-4 lead on a play that started with a wild pitch by reliever José Alvarado and a high throw from catcher J.T. Realmuto in an attempt to keep Swanson from reaching second. The ball sailed past the outstretched gloves of Jean Segura at second and Bryson Stott at shortstop, then went under the glove of center fielder Odúbel Herrera for a two-base error.

ATLANTA (AP) — William Contreras singled home Ronald Acuña Jr. in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Atlanta Braves a 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — An autopsy report shows that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was legally drunk when he was fatally struck by a dump truck on a Florida highway last month. TULSA, Okla. (AP) — For nearly four full days, the PGA Championship had been a snooze, the cast of characters atop the leaderboard a list mostly made up of also-rans searching for a moment stardom. The golf itself was unspectacular, too, as everyone from Abraham Ancer to Tiger Woods ground their way around a Perry Maxwell classic that was both forbidding and unforgiving. Then, on the back nine on Sunday, Justin Thomas went on a charge to force a playoff. Mito Pereira dunked a tee shot into the water and disappeared. And Thomas emerged with a victory that was downright spectacular.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Ryan Blaney is talking about framing the window net from his No. 12 Ford, the one he somehow got secured enough to run two extra laps and win NASCAR's All-Star race and $1 million — after he and Team Penske thought they had already won once.

MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara pitched a six-hitter and the Miami Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3. The 26-year-old-Alcantara (4-2) limited the Braves to three unearned runs and six hits.
