Commentary: Learn how to live for Christ in the public square

Posted

Brad Hughes, chairman of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board’s Public Affairs Committee and director of field operations for Gov. Brian Kemp, and I are very excited about this year's public affairs training events. Our theme for this year’s training is, "Living for Christ in the Public Square."

As a valued member of the Georgia Baptist community, we want to train you on how to discover the powerful impact your faith can have on society. The board has scheduled four of these training events during the months of May and June.

As you all know, we are living in a world where ethical issues constantly challenge our culture. It's more important than ever for believers like you to engage in policy-making processes and advocate for Christian values.

These training events are about educating pastors and church members on ethical issues in our culture and why it’s important that a witness to the life-changing power of the gospel be seen in our local, state, and national government.

You will learn why it’s important and how ministry leaders and churches can be engaged in the policy-making process and why local, state, and national leaders need your ministry and support.

Some of the most important ethical issues affecting Georgia Baptists are debated inside the state Capitol, and citizens need to make their positions known regarding each one. This year, Georgia Baptists had an important year in making their concerns known.

Trainers joining me at these events include Brad Hughes, chairman of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board’s Public Affairs Committee and director of field operations for Gov. Brian Kemp; Harrison Smith, regional director for the Alliance Defending Freedom; Kevin Cooke, former state representative and state director for Americans for Prosperity - Georgia; and Josh McKoon, a lawyer and former state senator.

This no-cost training event includes a free lunch and is designed to empower pastors, church members, and ministry leaders like you to become influential voices for Christ in the public sphere.
