Dick Reasoner dies on July 27

Dick Reasoner, husband of missionary Debbie Wohler Reasoner, died at home at Lake Lanier on Friday. July 27. He was the widower of Georgia Baptist Public Relations Director Diane Reasoner who died in an Atlanta automobile accident in 2007 while the couple were returning from South Georgia.

In March 2017 he married longtime missionary Debbie Wohler, who served in resort ministries at First Baptist Church, Tahoe City. Wohler, who launched the resort ministry in 1979, has been featured in numerous Southern Baptist publications through the decades.

Debbie Wohler Reasoner served as children’s director at the church through last year but now serves as staff recruiter. A popular speaker and personality with Georgia Baptist WMU, she was in Tahoe City with her sister and brother-in-law at the time of Dick Reasoner’s death in Georgia. Her ministry was featured here and here in The Index.

Dick Reasoner served at the Atlanta-based Home Mission Board (now North American Mission Board) in Counseling Services  from 1987-1991, He was also involved in private counseling ministry.

Tahoe Pastor Scott Capshaw communicated Dick Reasoner’s death on Saturday morning to friends of the couple. The email, written Friday night, said:

“It is with a truly heavy heart that I share with you that this morning Dick Reasoner passed away. I know this news will come as a shock. Please pray for our friend Debbie as she travels back to Atlanta. In the coming days if you’d like to reach out to Debbie please email her at debbie@fbctahoe.com. Debbie has asked for no phone calls at this time.”

The visitation for Dick Reasoner will be Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 5 - 8 p.m. and the funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. Both the visitation and the funeral will be at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway in Lawrenceville.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking friends to consider donating to Passion Play Ministries International (PPMI), PO Box 1697, Aztec, NM  87410. After Dick’s first wife passed away in 2007, Dick found great significance and a new purpose by serving the Lord through this ministry. He served on the group's Board and traveled the world helping to spread the gospel. Thousands of people worldwide have come to know the Lord through the efforts of Passion Play Ministries International.
