SUWANEE, Ga. – Georgia Baptists will gather in their homes, offices and churches across the state on Thursday to pray for the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting set for June 13-14 in New Orleans.
Georgia Baptist Mission Board Executive Director W. Thomas Hammond Jr. has invited the state’s 3,400 churches to be part of the online prayer gathering.
“This is a critically important convention,” Hammond said in announcing the prayer initiative. “And we don’t want to head into this convention in our own strength and our own wisdom. What we need to do is humble ourselves and ask the Lord to give us His wisdom and His strength so that His will might be done.”
Hammond, joined by pastors and church leaders from across the state, will host the online prayer gathering at 8 a.m. Participants can preregister at https://gabaptist.org/prayforsbc/.
“We believe that prayer is our access to God’s resources, and our desire is for God to bring greater clarity of what is right and the strongest resolve to do it,” Hammond said. “During this one-hour prayer session, we’ll be praying for the leaders and attendees of the annual meeting, asking God to provide wisdom, guidance, and unity. We’ll also be praying for our local churches and communities, asking for God’s blessings and protection over them.”
Hammond encouraged all the state’s pastors, ministry leaders, and lay people to join in praying for the SBC annual meeting.
“We need to gather together and ask the Lord to guide us and strengthen us so that His will and His will alone will be done,” he said.
