Mission Georgia materials are now being distributed to churches to promote the 2018 state missions offering. GMBM/SpecialSummer is drawing to a close, campers are heading back to school and Fall is right around the corner. That means churches are ordering their Mission Georgia materials as they begin building awareness of the annual state missions offering.
While Cooperative Program dollars are the backbone of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board – the state missions offering serves as a special love offering. That offering extends the work begun by the Cooperative Program and gives those ministries the extra funds to further their work statewide.
Now is the time for congregations to order their materials. In fact, hundreds of boxes are already being shipped from Blairsville to Bainbridge to churches who placed their orders a little early. Click here for more information on this year's offering.
This year’s theme is “Ageless: Touching All Generations with God’s Good News,” noted State Missionary John Bryan. The offering is generally celebrated each September but can be observed anytime of the year that best fits the local church’s calendar, he said.
"Mission Georgia materials have now been packed and mailed to nearly 1.400 churches who have currently placed orders. For 9 straight years Georgia Baptists faithfully increased their giving to the Mission Georgia Offering until last year’s hurricanes and tornadoes drew needed support for Disaster Response which lowered contributions to other causes. Because of the lag in giving, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board was limited in ministry funds," Bryan noted.
The state missionary said that tThis year’s goal of 1.75 million "can only be reached through the generous efforts of Georgia Baptists. The nations have come to Georgia and God has given us an enormous opportunity to spiritually impact the 7 million in our state who have no saving faith in Jesus Christ.
"The multiple ministries funded through the Mission Georgia Offering are represented through starting new churches, training and equipping pastors and congregational leadership, evangelism, discipleship, new language congregations and a myriad of other expressions expressly designed to undergird our 3.600 Georgia Baptist churches and missions.
"Orders for free materials, including 7-Day Prayer Guides, age-graded Bible studies, posters, offering envelopes, Generosity Podcasts, and a DVD featuring powerful ministry stories with English, Spanish, Korean and Vietnamese language translations are now available.
Churches young and old are big givers, as noted in the Top 200 Mission Georgia Giving Churches last year. Endeavor Church, an Atlanta congregation founded in 2015, contributed $12,500. Ebenezer Baptist Church in Dacula, organized in 1847, was the top giver with $28,350.18. And while no one knows who gave that 18 cents, that amount is just as important as the largest amount given by any individual.
