Obituary: Pastor Lance Fendley being remembered as 'a faithful friend'

SMITHVILLE, Ga. – Pastor Lance David Fendley is being remembered as “a faithful friend” and “a great man.”

Fendley, pastor of Smithville Baptist Church, died Saturday at age 55.

“Lance was a dear person who loved the Lord and had a heart for souls and a compassion for people,” said Tim Ferguson, who posted the comment on the Aldridge Funeral Services website. “He was always a faithful friend.”

“He was a great man and a great pastor,” said another friend, Charles Martin. “I know he’s gone to heaven. He will be truly missed.”

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Friendship Camp Gymnasium on Hwy. 30 with the Rev. Andy Taunton and Rev. Charles Stoops officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Fendley was born August 4, 1966, in Americus, Ga. He was the son of Mary Carolyn Walls Fendley and the late Gerald Irvin Fendley. He was an avid knife collector, wood worker and hunter. He loved sharing Jesus with others and touched the lives of many throughout his years of ministry. Lance loved music from an early age. He sang and played trombone in high school and bass in the praise band. He loved his kids and grandkids.

In addition to his mother, Lance is survived by his wife, Tina Helen Wiggins Fendley of Smithville; two sons, David Luke Fendley of Americus and Micah Elisha Fendley of Smithville; and two grandchildren, Ella Grace Fendley and Eliza Rey Fendley. Also surviving are two sisters, Dawn Holder of Cordele and Darlene Hager of Americus’ a brother Matthew Fendley of Lehigh Acres, Fla.
