AUGUSTA, Ga. – Messengers to the Georgia Baptist Convention’s annual meeting have approved appointments to a task force that will review and recommend changes to the convention’s constitution.

Executive Committee Chairman Josh Saefkow had recommended the members of the 10-member task force.

“The constitution is composed of a series of provisions and amendments from different conventions over many years,” the Executive Committee said. “There is a need for a comprehensive review and for revisions to harmonize and define terms, to clarify concepts, and to specify powers and duties.”

The task force members are from across the state. They are:

Frank Cox, northeast region

Steve Parr, northeast region

Jerry Speer, southwest region

Darrell Paulk, east region

Chris Allen, southwest region

Steve Browning, northwest region

Chad Rising, northeast region

David Lambert, east region

Doug Bingham, west region

Tony Pagliarullo, southeast region

The Georgia Baptist Convention’s parliamentarian, Barry McCarty, said he expects updates to be recommended.

“It’s a wise thing,” McCarty said, “for organizations to occasionally do comprehensive reviews of their governing documents.”
