Use common sense like Jesus

Posted

Read John 7:1-9.

Sometimes the will of God is as easy to figure out as using your common sense.

Just do the thing that makes the most sense. John 7 says that Jesus spent His time in Galilee instead of Judea because the Jews in Judea were trying to kill Him. Usually if people are trying to kill you ... then you tend to avoid their presence. The same was true for Jesus. His time to die had not yet come, so He avoided the places where people were trying to kill Him.

Even His interactions with His brothers clue us in to this reality. He tells them He is not going up with them openly to Jerusalem because His time had not yet come. However, when it would be His time to go to Jerusalem to die on the cross, He would go up for all to see. He would make a triumphant entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. He would turn over the money changers tables and cleanse the temple.

Everyone would know that He was in town, but until that time came, He used His common sense.

Remember, sometimes the will of God is as easy as doing the thing that makes the most sense. Just make sure your decision lines up with Scripture.
