We have an advocate with the father

Scripture for today: 1 John 2:1-2
I knew a lady once who was a children’s advocate. Her job, as best I understood it, was to represent children in court.
All of us, at times, need an advocate … someone who will go to bat for us, so to speak. Well, the Bible says that Jesus is our advocate. In I John 2, the Bible says, “My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.”
John tells us that if we sin – and we will – we have an advocate before the Lord, and that is Jesus.
This is how it works. Imagine that we are standing before God. We are sinners. Jesus steps up and pleads our case. Jesus tells the Father that even though we are sinners He died for our sins. Therefore, our sins should be forgiven because of what Jesus has done for us.
You may apply for a job somewhere. You have a friend who works in the place where you are applying. Your friend goes to the person doing the hiring and encourages them to hire you. They are an advocate for you. You get the job because a friend stood up for you.
Jesus is our advocate. He appeals to the Father on our behalf.
