Sometimes I’m asked why I write. I was always stronger in language arts than math and science. I never could understand algebra. Geometry was worse. No matter how hard I tried, I just “couldn’t get it.”  On one trip home to Milledgeville, I pulled out my report cards for some random reason, taking a walk down memory lane, and noticed my high school geometry teacher had the gall to write in the comment section after one grading period, “I think you could do better if you tried harder.”

One of the often overlooked and under appreciated impacts on our kid’s love for the Lord is the impact Godly adults have had on their lives.

Roe v. Wade: It is time to stand up!

When we look at what is going on today related to the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned, I want to set the tone for how we should be thinking. The fight for life is now going to be more intense on the state level! Now is not the time to back down! Now is the time to stand up!

Video from the 2022 evangelism conference sermons are now available on the ACTS2 streaming app. The app highlights the work of Southern Baptists and other evangelicals around the globe to encourage others to live ON MISSION.

Volunteers with Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief returned to Douglas over the weekend for a block party to celebrate the community’s recovery from a tornado that struck a year ago. Ronnie and Linda Register, who serve as Disaster Relief workers, shared a story from that celebration that speaks to the sovereignty of God. It’s one of those heart-touching tales that might have been used by the late broadcaster Paul Harvey in one of his “The rest of the story” segments.

The (GHSA) Georgia High School Association’s executive committee has voted unanimously to make sure girls participating in sports are protected from biological males competing against them.

ATLANTA - Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed into law SB 116, known as “Betsy’s Law,” the maternity supportive housing legislation authored by Sen. Randy Robertson and carried by Rep. Sharon Cooper in the House.

Roe v. Wade: Is the church ready?

Over the last few months, I have said that if Roe vs Wade is overturned or if viability is dropped to 15 weeks, the church is going to need to step up to care for mothers and babies like never before. With the last night’s leak of the news regarding the potential overturning of Roe by the Supreme Court, this concern has been brought front and center.

Once again, Georgia Baptists need to know how to have the greatest impact on shaping public policy in our state. And that’s the purpose of a series of upcoming training sessions being held across the state of Georgia.

Working at the Georgia state Capitol can be a very challenging time when it comes to standing up for social and moral issues. However, this was a very good year for Georgia Baptists and our work at …

CHATSWORTH, GA – On March 27th the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles was all aglow with lights, cameras, action, festive decorations, and Hollywood’s most celebrated stars. It was the annual televised event when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hands out their awards (Oscars) for creative and technical excellence in the film industry. It is an attempt to honor the best of the best in movie production and the actors on the silver screen.

This week, Freddie Freeman hit his first homerun as a Los Angeles Dodger in his first at bat against his former teammates. What a storyline! Right after the World Series, Atlanta Braves fans anxiously awaited the Braves and first baseman Freeman’s agreement on a new contract allowing him to finish his career as a Brave. It didn’t happen.

I had the most encouraging note from Barb Coffan down in Peachtree City the other day, talking about how much she is enjoying receiving the top news headlines from The Christian Index each morning.

In what has been a busy week for news, a couple of stories especially captured my attention. Perhaps you remember the headlines: Calvary Baptist Church finds success with spring VBS. Once a retail giant, Kmart down to 3 stores. Those stories may, at first glance, appear to absolutely unrelated, but let me show you how they’re linked.

Make the most of Holy Week

I love Easter! What pastor doesn’t? As one pastor commented, “I must be the greatest preacher in the world!” He wasn’t boasting.  He was thrilled to see the larger-than-normal crowd that gathers for worship on Easter Sunday. The more, the merrier, as far as I’m concerned.  I love to see God’s house full of people worshipping the risen Savior!

Having served at the Georgia State Capitol as a lobbyist for 15 years, I believe this was the best year ever for getting good legislation across the finish line. See 40th Day video: https://fb.watch/cckJlHdjcJ/

On Monday, March 28, in the House Economic Development and Tourism Committee, Representative Ron Stephens introduced legislation that would (for all practical purposes) legalize every form of …

DALLAS, GA – Anyone who attended one of the Georgia Baptist Convention’s Evangelism Conferences had to be inspired and blessed by the attendance, spirit, singing and preaching of the gatherings in all three regions.

Few things have had a greater impact on American Christianity than the introduction of the automobile. It begs the question of how much impact culture and technology have on the way we practice our faith? What cannot be denied is in both positive and negative ways, it changed the landscape of American Christianity.

Community leaders and legislators expressed their concerns about gambling expansion Wednesday during a Capitol press conference organized by Citizen Impact, Frontline Policy Council and the Georgia Baptist Mission Board.

When I get aggravated about rising gas prices, inflated grocery costs, and other inconveniences stemming from the Russia/Ukraine conflict, I remind myself, “At least I know where my next meal is coming from, and I have a warm bed to sleep in.”

The war in Ukraine and you

Do these quotes sound familiar?“Why should we care?” “It’s over there, so it’s not our problem.” “We don’t need to get involved in other people’s …

No two churches are identical, and no two churches approach their search for a new pastor the same way either. While most churches follow the same general five phases of the pastor search process, they differ in how they complete those phases.

Fish Falling from the Sky?

At the end of December, a rare meteorological phenomenon occurred in Texarkana. Fish rained down from the sky during a thunderstorm. Sometimes waterspouts pick up small frogs, crabs, and fish and drop them, but in this case, no evidence of waterspouts could be found to explain this quirk of nature.

We are living in a day when societal acceptance of gambling is beyond anything we would have ever thought possible in our lifetime.
