ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech moved quickly to put a new leader in charge of its struggling men's basketball program, hiring longtime NBA guard Damon Stoudamire as the new Yellow Jackets coach on Monday. The 49-year-old Stoudamire comes to the Atlantic Coast Conference school from the Boston Celtics, where he had been an assistant coach since 2021. The Celtics were in Atlanta this past weekend to play the Hawks.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons announced Monday that Pro Bowler Chris Lindstrom has signed a five-year contract extension, reportedly making him the NFL's highest-paid guard. ESPN reported the deal, which will keep Lindstrom with the Falcons through the 2028 season, is worth $105 million. It locks up another key member of the offensive line, with left tackle Jake Matthews under contract through 2026.

ARE, Sweden (AP) — American skier Mikaela Shiffrin won her record-tying 86th World Cup race Friday with victory in a giant slalom. Shiffrin’s win matched the overall record set by Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark 34 years ago. The 27-year-old American protected her half-second lead from the first run and finished 0.64 seconds ahead of Federica Brignone.

Amongst the recipients, Spurgeon College Men’s Basketball Coach Billy Livezey won the Coach of the Year Award. Additionally, two players on the team received national honors. Livezey, who completed his first year as head coach at Spurgeon College this year, led the men’s basketball team in a historic season.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia's Stegeman Coliseum has been closed for repairs after a small piece of concrete fell from the ceiling of the nearly 60-year-old facility that hosts several of the university's sports teams and school graduation ceremonies in the spring. No one was injured when the concrete fell on Wednesday, the school said.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Nolan Smith poured out his heart Wednesday at the NFL's annual scouting combine. He shed some tears, too. On a stage he'd always dreamed about taking, the former Georgia defensive star stood before a group of reporters and gave an emotional memorial about his friend and former college teammate, Devin Willock, who was killed in a car crash Jan. 15. Smith even apologized to Willock's mother who has now had two sons die in traffic accidents.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Washington Wizards spoiled Quin Snyder's Atlanta coaching debut, getting 37 points from Bradley Beal and 28 from Kyle Kuzma in a 119-116 victory over the Hawks on Tuesday night. Beal hit a pull-up jumper with 35.3 seconds left that gave the short-handed Wizards a 117-113 lead after they trailed nearly the entire second half.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Miles Kelly and Lance Terry each made a season-best seven 3-pointers and combined for 54 points as Georgia Tech rolled in a 96-76 victory over Syracuse on Tuesday night. Kelly was 10-of-19 shooting and finished with a career-high 30 points. Terry was 8 of 13 from the floor and scored 24 points. Kyle Sturdivant added 20 and Javon Franklin had 14 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists for Georgia Tech (13-17, 5-14 ACC).
