The decision begins the 25-year-old's plan for the unprecedented outpouring of support that he received after his heart stopped following a tackle during a "Monday Night Football" game in January.

ATLANTA (AP) — Michael Harris II couldn't wait to get into the batter's box after the Baltimore Orioles chose to intentionally walk Marcell Ozuna and pitch to him. “I was having some good at-bats all game," Harris said. "So to see them walk Ozuna and want to have to face me, it kind of put a fire in my you-know-what. I got up there first pitch and tried to hit something hard and I did.”

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears signed four of their 10 draft picks to four-year contracts Thursday. The Bears agreed to deals with Kennesaw State defensive tackle Travis Bell, Minnesota cornerback Terell Smith, Oregon linebacker Noah Sewell,  and Stanford safety Kendall Williamson.

MIAMI (AP) — Marcell Ozuna homered for the third time in two games, Ronald Acuña Jr. stole his league-leading 15th base, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Thursday to complete a three-game sweep. Acuña went down in the sixth after fouling a ball off his left knee. He remained on the ground and grabbed at his leg for several minutes, but finished the at-bat and returned to right field in the bottom of the frame. He was eventually removed as a precaution.

Tori Bowie, the sprinter who won three Olympic medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, has died. She was 32. Bowie's death was announced Wednesday by her management company and USA Track and Field. No cause of death was given.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (AP) — Ralph Boston, the Olympic long jump champion who broke Jesse Owens' world record and then later had his own mark eclipsed by Bob Beamon's record-shattering leap at the Mexico City Games, died Sunday. He was 83.

MIAMI (AP) — Bryce Elder outpitched NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara by throwing seven innings of three-hit ball and the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 6-0 on Tuesday night. Ozzie Albies homered and doubled, while Ronald Acuña Jr. doubled, drove in a run and stole his NL-leading 14th base for the Braves.

The College Football Playoff released on Tuesday a schedule for the 12-team format that will be used in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, which will feature New Year's Day quarterfinal tripleheaders but no games played on Saturday. CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock said last week after the board of managers had met in Dallas that the calendar had been decided upon. The final piece was placing games and sites on the dates.

NEW YORK (AP) — Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the New York Mets with a bruised left shoulder after getting hit by a 93 mph fastball from Tylor Megill. Leading off the game, Acuña was drilled with an 0-2 pitch. He sat on the ground for a while holding his shoulder in obvious pain while receiving attention from an athletic trainer.

NEW YORK (AP) — Francisco Álvarez hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning and the New York Mets beat Atlanta 5-3 to split a doubleheader Monday after Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. exited the nightcap early with a bruised shoulder. Sean Murphy had a pair of three-run homers in the opener and Acuña launched a 448-foot home run into the rarely-reached third deck at Citi Field, powering the Braves to a 9-8 victory after the teams were rained out the previous two days.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Christy Mathewson, who led the New York Giants to their first world series in 1906, refused to play baseball on Sunday because of his Christian faith. In the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, Eric Liddell declined to run in the heats for his favored 100 meters because they were held on Sunday. In the 21st century the Lord’s Day is not honored as in past centuries. However, David Pollack is expressing a refreshing view regarding the importance of keeping Sunday as a day of worship and praise.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves were rained out for the second straight day on Sunday. The game was postponed about 3 1/2 hours before the scheduled first pitch at 1:40 p.m. It will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader Monday starting at 1:10 p.m., originally scheduled as one game.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stetson Bennett will get the chance to deliver for the Los Angeles Rams. Los Angeles grabbed Georgia’s two-time national championship-winning quarterback in the fourth round Saturday, higher than many draft observers predicted.

(AP) — While running back Bijan Robinson remains the focus of the Atlanta Falcons' NFL draft, general manager Terry Fontenot didn't want to forget about the offensive and defensive lines. The Falcons addressed a need on their offensive line by selecting Syracuse offensive tackle Matthew Bergeron after trading with Indianapolis in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday night.

ATLANTA (AP) — After letting the series go longer than it should have, Al Horford and the Boston Celtics were eager to finish off the Atlanta Hawks. Horford made sure his former team didn't force a Game 7. The 36-year-old Horford hit a huge 3-pointer in a late run that carried the Celtics past the Hawks 128-120 Thursday night for a 4-2 triumph in the opening-round playoff series.

ATLANTA (AP) — Garrett Cooper picked a great time to break out of his slump. Cooper came through with a two-out, two-run double that capped a stunning five-run ninth inning by the Miami Marlins, who avoided a sweep with a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves in a game delayed more than three hours Thursday by inclement weather. Kyle Wright and four relievers held Miami scoreless until the ninth, but the Marlins overcame a 4-0 deficit against Braves closer A.J. Minter.

NEW YORK (AP) — Joe Torre has won the third Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Baseball Digest. A star player during 18 major league seasons and longtime manager for the New York Yankees and four other teams, Torre was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2014. He was honored Thursday with an annual distinction that recognizes a living individual “who has made significant contributions to the game.”

ATLANTA (AP) — Vaughn Grissom didn't have the chance to open the season in Atlanta as he hoped. Now that he's back in the majors, the shortstop is proving he can fit in the Braves' productive lineup. Grissom had two hits, including a single to drive in the go-ahead run in Atlanta's four-run eighth inning, and the Braves rallied to overcome a strong start by Miami's Sandy Alcantara and beat the Marlins 6-4 on Wednesday night.
