ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Hawks have lost All-Star point guard Trae Young for at least four weeks with a left hand injury. The Hawks announced Sunday that Young suffered a torn ligament in the fifth finger of his left hand during Friday night's loss to Toronto. Young will have surgery Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Austin Hill won his second straight NASCAR Xfinity race to open the season, surging to the lead on an overtime restart when teammate Jesse Love ran out of gas, for a dramatic ending on Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miles Kelly tied a career high with seven 3-pointers in scoring 25 points and Georgia Tech edged Miami 80-76 on Saturday. Kelly was 7 of 11 from the arc with seven rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (12-16, 5-12 ACC), who won for just the second time in seven games.

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — Michael McDowell insisted his first NASCAR Cup Series pole in his 467th career start was not a surprise. Following a close runner-up finish in last week's Daytona 500 qualifying, McDowell said he knew his Front Row Motorsports Ford would be fast on Saturday.

ATLANTA (AP) — Dell McGee, who spent eight years as an assistant at Georgia, was named Georgia State's coach on Friday night. McGee, a Georgia native, replaces Shawn Elliott, who made a surprise decision on Feb. 15 to leave Georgia State and accept a position as assistant coach at South Carolina. Elliott's abrupt resignation forced the Panthers to delay plans for spring football practice.

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Tyren Moore had 21 points in Georgia Southern's 84-76 victory over Texas State on Thursday night. Moore added five rebounds and five assists for the Eagles (6-22, 6-9 Sun Belt Conference).

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Frankquon Sherman had 21 points in Kennesaw State's 74-67 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday night. Sherman also had 10 rebounds for the Owls (15-13, 6-8 Atlantic Sun Conference).

CLEVELAND, Ga. — On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted St. Andrews University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Bears recorded a big win over the Knights, 94-75. TMU rises to an overall score of 11-16, 9-14 AAC, while SAU falls to a record of 5-20, 3-20 AAC.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Noah Thomasson scored 17 points, all in the first half, Jabri Abdur-Rahim added 13 points and Georgia rolled past Vanderbilt 76-64 on Wednesday night. Georgia's 16-point halftime lead was trimmed to 11 before Justin Hill scored five points and Blue Cain hit a 3-pointer in a 12-0 run that put the Bulldogs up 63-40 near the 11-minute mark.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The goal was obvious to William Byron: put the No. 24 Chevrolet in victory lane in the 2024 Daytona 500 to launch Hendrick Motorsports' 40th anniversary season. Mission accomplished, even if Byron had to complete an agonizing final lap under caution around Daytona International Speedway awaiting the winner to be declared.

NASCAR has postponed the season-opening Daytona 500 until Monday because of two days of rain at Daytona International Speedway.

ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Sturdivant scored 17 points, Miles Kelly and Baye Ndongo both had double-doubles and Georgia Tech defeated Syracuse 65-60 on Saturday. Ndongo scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds; Kelly had 16 and 10. Tafare Gapare scored 10 for the Yellow Jackets (11-15, 4-11 ACC).

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Walter Clayton Jr. scored 21 points, backup forward Thomas Haugh added 17 points and some key plays in the final two minutes, and Florida defeated Georgia 88-82 on Saturday. Haugh's driving layup with 1:47 remaining put the Gators ahead 83-77 then Noah Thomason hit a 3-pointer to get Georgia within 83-80. With 50 seconds left, Haugh grabbed the offensive rebound off a missed 3-pointer and drew a foul from Thomason.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — East Carolina sophomore Parker Byrd appeared in Friday's season-opening win against Rider with a prosthetic leg after having part of his right leg amputated following a 2022 boating accident. The school said he is the first NCAA Division I athlete to play in a game with a prosthetic leg. Athletics spokesman Malcolm Gray said the Byrd family researched for any other examples. NCAA spokesman Greg Johnson said the organization doesn't track that type of record.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Denny Hamlin leaned into the window of Christopher Bell's winning Toyota to congratulate his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate on beating him in a Daytona 500 qualifying race. Hamlin then gave Bell detailed directions to victory lane. “Been to victory lane at Daytona a time or three,” Hamlin wrote on social media. “Had to show (Bell) the way.”

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Kylan Blackmon's 31 points led Coastal Carolina over Georgia Southern 82-75 on Thursday night. Blackmon shot 11 for 14 (6 for 8 from 3-point range) and 3 of 6 from the free throw line for the Chanticleers (7-17, 4-9 Sun Belt Conference).

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Terrence Edwards scored 28 points to help James Madison defeat Georgia State 83-63 on Thursday night. Edwards was 6 of 15 shooting, including 4 for 7 from 3-point range, and went 12 for 12 from the line for the Dukes (23-3, 11-3 Sun Belt Conference).

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Brandon Miller scored 26 points, Tre Mann added 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and the Charlotte Hornets won their season-high third straight game, 122-99 over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. Miles Bridges chipped in with 17 points for Charlotte, which improved to 3-0 since adding Mann, Grant Williams, Vasilije Micic, Seth Curry and Davis Bertans at the trade deadline.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Markus Burton scored 18 points, Tae Davis scored 17 and made some key plays down the stretch, leading Notre Dame to a 58-55 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday night. Burton added five assists to go with five steals and his two free throws with one second left iced the win for the Fighting Irish (9-16, 4-10 ACC).

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — Terrell Burden scored 28 points as Kennesaw State beat Jacksonville 66-61 on Wednesday night to snap a six-game losing streak. Burden was 9 of 20 shooting, including 0 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 10 for 13 from the line for the Owls (14-12, 5-7 Atlantic Sun Conference).

MACON, Ga. (AP) — Dillon Bailey's 17 points helped Wofford defeat Mercer 73-60 on Wednesday night. Bailey shot 5 for 9 (3 for 7 from 3-point range) and 4 of 5 from the free throw line for the Terriers (15-11, 8-5 Southern Conference).

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — The Georgia Bulldogs have a new special teams coordinator after more staff changes announced Wednesday by head coach Kirby Smart. Kirk Benedict, who served as special teams analyst the last two seasons, has been promoted to replace Scott Cochran. According to Smart, Cochran and offensive analyst Darrell Dickey both resigned to pursue other opportunities.

ATLANTA (AP) — Ayo Dosunmu had a career-high 29 points and added seven assists to help the Chicago Bulls post a season-high score and beat the Atlanta Hawks 136-126 on Monday night. DeMar DeRozan also had 29 points and Nikola Vucevic finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Coby White added 20 points and seven assists.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Mahomes threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman with 3 seconds left in overtime, and the Chiefs rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 on Sunday, becoming the first repeat Super Bowl champs in 19 years and ninth overall.
